A few useful tools for your next walk
Walking and step calculators
Find your distance, work out your personal steps per mile, or plan how long a walk may take. Each tool starts with measurements that describe your own steps.
Turn a count into a distance
Steps to miles converter
Convert steps into miles, kilometers, feet or meters using your measured step length, or start with a distance to find the required steps.
Includes counted-walk calibration, personal conversion charts and distance goals.
Find your personal one-mile count
Steps per mile calculator
Work out how many of your steps cover one mile. Enter a measured step length, or use a known-distance walk and its counted steps.
Includes a measurement guide and explains how whole-step rounding works.
Plan a duration from your own pace
Walking time calculator
Estimate moving time from a distance or step goal and your measured cadence. Add step length when converting a distance, and include any planned stops.
Keeps moving minutes and stop time separate, with the implied pace beside the estimate.
Recorded distance and time
Walking pace calculator
Compare moving and elapsed pace from a completed walk, with stops shown separately and speed in mph or km/h.
Optionally add the same walk’s step count to find personal cadence and one-step length.
Compare the same walk
Step tracker distance vs GPS
Compare tracker and reference distances, see the signed percentage gap, and separate counting, step-length and GPS questions.
Includes same-route checks and a guide to investigating mismatched measurements.
Combine matching measured walks
Step length calibration
Pool the distances and counted steps from up to ten walks to calculate a personal one-step length.
Shows individual sample ratios, preserves distance units and explains why averaging ratios can mislead.
Separate activity profiles
Walking and running distance
Combine walking and running counts with a separately measured one-step length for each activity. Enter disjoint counts or subtract running steps from an inclusive total.
Shows each activity’s distance and the count-weighted effective step length without assuming an activity split.
Sensitivity to your length assumptions
Step distance range calculator
Hold a step count fixed and compare lower and upper average one-step lengths. See the resulting distance interval, its width and an explicitly labeled arithmetic midpoint.
Uses your supplied bounds and keeps scenario ranges separate from statistical confidence or verified accuracy.
Stair dimensions, not walking miles
Stair rise and run calculator
Calculate total stair rise and horizontal run from a chosen number of uniform risers, riser height and horizontal going per interval. Keep landings separate.
Calculate stair geometry with explicit assumptions.
Manual count versus device
Pedometer step-count check
Compare a device step count with manually counted steps from the same walk. See signed error and an illustrative correction for a separate device total without claiming device calibration.
Compare counted steps with explicit assumptions.
Measured-route planning
Walking lap calculator
Find full laps and remaining distance for a mile goal using your measured route length. Optionally estimate steps from a footfall count on the same lap.
Plan laps for your goal with explicit assumptions.
Personal step-plan arithmetic
Step goal cadence calculator
Find remaining steps and average steps per minute needed to meet your chosen step goal in your available time. Optional measured step length estimates distance.
Plan remaining steps with explicit assumptions.
Two-interval walk estimate
Walking interval distance calculator
Estimate steps and distance across two walking intervals with different durations and measured cadences. Use your own step length to convert the expected steps to miles.
Total estimated walk with explicit assumptions.
Indoor walk distance estimate
Treadmill steps calculator
Estimate treadmill belt distance, footfalls and cadence from speed, elapsed minutes and personally measured step length.
Estimate treadmill steps with explicit assumptions.
Vertical stair distance
Stair steps to floors calculator
Convert counted stair risers to vertical feet, meters and floor equivalents using your measured riser height and building floor-to-floor height.
Convert stair steps to floor equivalents with explicit assumptions.
Plan a walk within a time budget
Out-and-back walking calculator
Plan an out-and-back walk using total available minutes, reserved time, separate outward and return paces, and your measured step length.
Plan the outward and return legs with explicit assumptions.
Your measurements make the difference
Step length connects a step count to distance. Cadence connects a step count to time. Measure them at the pace you plan to walk; the same count can mean a different distance or duration for someone else.
