Personal step-plan arithmetic

Step goal cadence calculator

Choose your own step target, enter the steps already recorded and the minutes you have left. The page computes the average remaining cadence; a personal measured step length can also translate that remainder into miles.

Result

Results are based only on the inputs and assumptions shown here. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.

Formula: remaining steps = max(goal − current, 0); average steps/min = remaining ÷ minutes; miles = remaining × measured inches per step ÷ 63,360

Worked example

For a personal goal of 10,000 steps with 6,500 counted and 45 minutes left, 3,500 steps remain. The average is about 77.78 steps/min. At a measured 28 in/step, the remaining distance is about 1.547 miles.

This is a pace plan, not a fitness target

The goal is the number you enter. The calculation does not prescribe a daily step count or exercise intensity. If your count already meets the goal, remaining steps and required cadence are zero.

Use a personal step length for distance

A step is one footfall, and measured step length may change with speed and terrain. If you leave length blank, the distance stays uncalculated. The main calculator can turn a known count and measured length into distance independently.

Average is not a guarantee

The required cadence is total remaining steps divided by available minutes. Stops, changes of pace and device counting error can alter a real session. NIST unit factors underlie the inches-to-miles conversion.
